This weekend, Loudoun County’s sleepy little historic village of Waterford will host its 74th Annual Waterford Fair and Historic Homes Tour, Friday through Sunday, October 5, 6, and 7.
The three-day fall festival is not only touted as “the oldest and best juried crafts fair in Virginia,” but also offers the unique opportunity for fairgoers to visit and explore many of the historic 18th and 19th century homes for themselves, complete with a guided tour by the current homeowners!
Historical re-enactors of the Civil War and Colonial eras will hold living history demonstrations throughout the weekend, highlighting the storied history of Waterford, now designated a National Historic Landmark.
With numerous craft demonstrators from woodworking to jewelry, pottery to quilting and textiles, basket-making to leather works, each and every one of the expert artisans have “undergone a rigorous jurying process in order to be accepted as an official Waterford Foundation craftsperson.”
Food and drink will be plentiful, offered by local vendors and chefs, including a beer and wine garden from all local Northern Virginia breweries and wineries, and a farmers market to sample and purchase delicious farm-to-table foods from local farms in the area.
Bands and musicians will be entertaining non-stop throughout the Fair, with a wide variety of music ranging from bluegrass and folk to Celtic tunes and even a barbershop quartet.
Tickets to the Waterford Fair are $20 per person each day, or can be purchased in advance online for $16 per person each day, or $35 per person for all three days. All proceeds go for an extremely worthy cause: Preserving the very special Village of Waterford!
